A feisty river tigerfish bursting out from the shadows at an unsuspecting nkupe. Tigerfish often use the cover of reeds, branches and drop-offs to ambush their prey as their striped markings help them to blend into the background. In this painting I wanted to focus on the split second moment as the tigerfish pounces on its prey displaying its lethal toothy jaws.
