Recently completed, this painting features smallmouth yellowfish expressing different lip adaptations. Some of these yellowfish develop larger rubbery lips due to their particular diet of feeding on mussels on rocks and stones. The smallmouth yellowfish that are more opportunistic, however, and feed on a wide range of insect, fish and plant matter have conventional lips.
