Tropical Africa is home to many fascinating fish. A perfect example of this is the nembwe, with its olive green to yellow appearance and dorsal and tail fins lined with intense orange or red.
Nembwe are highly territorial and aggressive fish and are mostly found where there is a lot of structure. In the painting, I imagined an ideal habitat with sunken branches and overhanging reeds where both predator and prey could shelter or, in this case, where a predator could ambush its prey.
